Sunshine Coast races off: Last winter carnival day postponed - Racenet

The last race day of the Queensland winter carnival has been called off and postponed after a big wet struck south-east Queensland.

Saturday’s nine-race Sunshine Coast metropolitan card was set to feature the Group 3 Winx Guineas, Listed Glasshouse Handicap and Listed Caloundra Cup.

However heavy rain in south-east Queensland saw the Sunshine Coast track firstly deteriorate to a heavy (10) on Saturday morning and then, shortly after 7am, officials made the call to postpone the card.

Racing Queensland and Sunshine Coast racing officials were considering rescheduling the meeting.

RQ confirms that following a track inspection, the race meeting at @SCTurfClub today has been postponed.
The potential for the rescheduling of the race meeting will now be considered by RQ in conjunction with club management.

There was up to 40mm of rain forecast for the Sunshine Coast on Saturday, although the region looks set for a largely fine week with rain set to clear on Sunday or Monday.

The Gold Coast meeting scheduled for Saturday was abandoned although club officials were set to host a phantom meeting.

The rain deluge had also forced the final six races of Friday’s 10-race Ipswich card to be abandoned.
