Victoria records four COVID-19 cases as Richmond apartment block is plunged into lockdown - 7NEWS.com.au

Victoria has recorded four new locally acquired coronavirus cases just hours after an apartment block in inner-Melbourne was plunged into lockdown.

The Department of Health confirmed the infections, which were recorded in the 24 hours to midnight from 25,779 tests, were linked to the current outbreak and all have been in quarantine throughout their infectious period.

There are currently 161 active cases in the state.

On Saturday night, 20 residents in a Richmond apartment block were ordered to begin 14 days of mandatory quarantine after being informed the building was a Tier 1 exposure site.

Residents told 7NEWS health authorities had said a resident tested positive for COVID-19 with the exposure period ranging from July 22 to 26.

The building, which has been cordoned off with ‘no entry’ signs, has not been listed as a public exposure site but further details are expected to be announced on Sunday.

The only exposure site to be listed in the last 24 hours is a gym in Melbourne’s southwest.

Anyone who attended Body Fit Training Altona North at 18 Bennett Drive on July 28 between 5:20am and 7:00am must immediately get tested and isolate until a negative result is received.

The numbers follow two cases reported on Saturday, one quarantined during their infectious period and the other a colleague of a Melbourne testing site worker at Moonee Valley Racecourse who was briefly in the community before isolating.

Health Minister Martin Foley said on Saturday the fellow traffic controller shared a lift after work with the first, whose diagnosis was confirmed this week and was isolated as soon as he was identified as close contact.

Authorities are still investigating how the first Moonee Valley worker contracted the virus, although genomic testing has linked the case to the outbreak at Maribyrnong’s Ariele apartment complex sparked by a crew of NSW removalists.

Victoria is living under relaxed restrictions since coming out of its fifth lockdown, however, private gatherings are not yet permitted and strict mask-wearing applies.
