Victorian COVID-19 case visited Woolworths supermarket at Doncaster before being identified as close contact - 7NEWS.com.au

Shoppers at a Woolworths supermarket in Melbourne’s northeast have been ordered to get tested and isolate for 14 days after a man visited the store before testing positive for COVID-19.

Victoria recorded two new locally acquired cases on Saturday - both of whom have been linked to the current outbreak of the more virulent Delta strain.

While one was in quarantine throughout their infectious period, the other, a second traffic controller at the Moonee Valley drive-through testing site, had been in the community while potentially infectious.

He had shared a car ride with the first traffic controller who tested positive for the virus earlier this week.

Health Minister Martin Foley said the case had “very limited time in the community” but had visited the Woolworths Doncaster Devon Plaza store on Doncaster Road before being identified as a close contact and placed into isolation.

Anyone who attended the store on Wednesday, July 28 between 10:20am and 11:25am must get tested immediately and quarantine for 14 days from the exposure.

Authorities are still investigating how the first Moonee Valley worker contracted the virus.

Initial results from genomic testing have linked the case to the outbreak at Maribyrnong’s Ariele apartment complex sparked by a crew of NSW removalists.

But so far no origin for the Frankston man’s infection with the Delta strain has been established.
