Perth wakes to easing restrictions after five-day lockdown - 9News

More than 2 million Western Australians are awaking to eased restrictions this morning after their 5-day snap lockdown lifted in 6pm last night.

Businesses can reopen, subject to the four square metre rule while private gathering caps will be extended to 20 guests.

Weddings and funerals can host 150 people.

Masks are still mandatory in public, except during vigorous exercise.

Western Australians can also now travel to South Australia with the state lifting its hard border.

The announcement from SA's Premier Steven Marshall has meant 1300 people quarantining in Perth will also be able to enjoy freedom this weekend.

Meanwhile in Melbourne, state health authorities seem to have contained a possible outbreak of COVID-19 in the hotel quarantine system after recording zero cases of community transmission in the last 24 hours.

More than 23,000 people were tested in the last 24 hours with zero cases recorded locally, from interstate travellers or in hotel quarantine.

More than 500 players and staff involved in the Australian Open have also tested negative to the virus.

The government overnight confirmed that masks will be mandatory for spectators at all matches under a closed roof, despite Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley earlier saying this would not be the case.
