Australia's coronavirus vaccination program will be back on track by the end of next week, despite problems with one of the main providers of health care workers, Greg Hunt says.
The federal health minister's confidence comes despite Healthcare Australia CEO Jason Cartwright stepping aside after one doctor gave two people at a Brisbane nursing home too large a dose of the Pfizer vaccine.
Both patients have shown no signs of adverse reactions.
Mr Hunt said the program had gone from 1600 vaccinations on day one to 6000 on day two, to almost 10,000 on day three.
He expected 60,000 doses would have been delivered by Monday.
"By the end of the second week we are expecting to be fully on track, by the end of the six weeks were expecting to be fully on track," Mr Hunt told reporters in Canberra.
Healthcare Australia is reviewing its procedures and has apologised for the distress caused.
It initially told the federal government it had seen proof the doctor had completed mandatory virus jab training, before later admitting he had not done it.
"They have been put on notice of potential termination for any significant further breaches," Mr Hunt said.
"It is a company with a long history of medical provision across Australia, and a long history through COVID of medical provision, but frankly we have thrown the book at them."
Healthcare Australia has the federal contract for the vaccination workforce in NSW and Queensland, and Aspen Medical is responsible for the other states and territories.
Another provider will be brought in to help Healthcare Australia in NSW and Queensland.
Meanwhile, states are easing more restrictions as the nation remains free of local virus cases.
South Australia has lifted the last of its travel restrictions, clearing the way for people from Greater Melbourne to enter the state from Friday with quarantine or testing.
Queensland will also reopen to Melbourne from 1am on Saturday.
Victorian Premier Dan Andrews is expected to make some "good news" announcements on his state's restrictions on Friday.
