The news of the death of the billionaire and MP of the conservative Republican Party Olivier Dassault, one of the heirs of the Dassault Aviation group that builds the Falcon, Mirage and Rafale aircraft, has caused shock in France.
Olivier Dassault, 69, was killed when his helicopter crashed in Normandy.
The accident happened on Sunday afternoon (local time), near Deauville, on the coast of Normandy, where he was staying at a holiday home.
The pilot of the private helicopter is also dead, as reported by the French media, citing sources close to the investigation carried out into the causes of the accident.
No other person was on board the helicopter.
French President Emmanuel Macron has paid tribute to Mr Dassault in a Twitter post in which he stressed that he loved France and never stopped serving it, through industry and politics, and that his sudden death was a great loss for the country.
Olivier Dassault was the eldest son of industry mogul Serge Dassault, who died in 2018. The Dassault Aviation Group builds the Falcon, Mirage and Rafale aircraft , and owns Le Figaro newspaper, among other publications.
