Sydney News: GPs angry as COVID-19 vaccine Phase 1b rollout begins - ABC News

Here's what you need to know this morning.

Vaccine roll-out frustration

The Port Stephens GP Super Clinic says it spent time and money getting ready to dispense up to 1,000 COVID-19 vaccines a day, only to be allocated far fewer doses.

The super clinic's Anna Davidson says her practice spent $10,000 on new vaccine fridges.

"We basically got our whole clinic to be ready to be able to vaccinate up to 1,000 people a day if we were called upon and when we were approved as a vaccine centre, and we got our allocation, we got 50 vaccines a week."

There has been backlash over how the vaccine will be distributed, with GPs saying they've been overwhelmed with calls as the Phase 1b roll-out that starts today.

Four people have been charged after a clandestine laboratory allegedly making the drug ice was discovered near Cabramatta in Sydney’s south-west.

Four search warrants were executed at Cabramatta, Mt Pritchard, Yagoona and Cabramatta West – where they found the laboratory.

Chemicals such as iodine, ephedrine, hypophosphorous acid and other solvents were seized.

Three men, aged between 51 and 61, and a woman, 54, are all facing multiple charges.

Among them, supplying a commercial quantity of a prohibited drug, supplying a prohibited drug and knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime.

Financial boost for women's services

The state government has announced an $8 million dollar infrastructure boost for sexual, domestic and family violence services.

Frontline services such as women's refuges can now apply for funding for facility upgrades and improvements to accessibility.

Attorney General and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence Mark Speakman said that grants worth a minimum of $25,000 can be applied for under the program.

He said it was critical to provide support and a safe place for survivors of violence fleeing a dangerous situation and applauded services in the field.

Records smashed in NSW

Records are tumbling as rain continues to lash NSW, in what NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian yesterday called a "one-in-100-year event" in the Mid-North Coast.

Nelson Bay on the NSW Mid-North Coast recorded 458 millimetres of rain in the three days up to 9:00am on Sunday morning, the highest ever three-day total since records began at that location in 1889.

Friday's total of 202mm was the seventh-highest daily fall since records began.

Schools closed

About 200 schools across NSW will be closed today as catastrophic flooding and rain cause havoc throughout several areas of the state.

The closures affect both public and independent schools and affect parts of northern New South Wales, Hunter, the Central Coast and Western Sydney.

Education Minister Sarah Mitchell said schools were closed on the advice of emergency services.

"Some of the schools do have storm damage and flood damage, others we're closing because roads are closed and there are others that are closing as a precaution based on advice from emergency services in case we do see rising flood levels today," she said.

A centre in Sydney's south-west is helping struggling women find independence and employment by offering courses and skills-development.

Nicole Hailes said she was struggling with depression when she started working with the Liverpool Connections Centre, who helped her find two jobs and start a business.

"LNC saved my life. I can never repay them for what they've done for me," she said.

The centre is funded by donations and grants.
