A Sydney aged care facility has recorded a further four cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.
Anglicare’s Newmarch House facility has recorded a total of 48 cases of coronavirus including 17 staff members and 31 residents, NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard said.
The coronavirus-related death toll at an aged care facility in Sydney’s west reached five after a 96-year-old woman died at the facility on Friday.
She was suffering from several other health complications and had recently tested positive for coronavirus, a spokesperson for Anglicare said.
“It’s a reminder to us all, again, if you’re not feeling well don’t go to work,” Hazzard said.
“Please, don’t go to work.”
Hazzard said there had also been another worker at an aged care facility who had, within 48 hours of working, become symptomatic.
He said, while in most situations, 48 hours would cause concern it did particularly when vulnerable people were involved.
“I would like to at some point be able to be open and transparent with the community about the facility but at this stage, I don’t think it would be appropriate to name the facility,” he said.
“The families and the staff have yet to be notified.”
New cases
New South Wales has recorded a further 12 cases of COVID-19, taking the state’s total to 2,994
While the number of daily infections is up on previous days, Hazzard said 2,193 people had recovered which was a “very very positive outcome”.

He also urged all residents to front for testing for the mildest of symptoms.
“If you have any symptoms whatsoever, as little as an itchy throat, itchy nose, temperature,” he said.
“The government wants you to come forward and be tested.”
This is a developing story. More to come.
