The ACT has recorded 13 new locally acquired COVID-19 cases, taking the total number of cases in the territory’s outbreak to 250.
Eight of the new cases were in quarantine for their entire infectious period, with five infectious in the community.
All of the new cases are linked to other known cases or exposure sites — 12 of the 13 new cases are household contacts of positive cases.
Ten people are in hospital, with one person remaining in intensive care in a critical condition.
Four of those in hospital are under the age of 40 while six are over 40. All are unvaccinated.
But ACT Chief Health Officer Kerryn Coleman confirmed 20 people had now recovered from the virus, leaving 230 cases currently active in the territory.
Testing numbers were up yesterday from a low of 2,937 tests on Friday, with 3,650 tests carried out on Saturday.
Barr defends 'gradual' return for construction sector
Yesterday Canberra's lockdown restrictions were eased for some small businesses, but ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr defended not including the construction sector in those changes.
So far, the ACT government has indicated it was planning a gradual recommencement of the industry from September 3.
Mr Barr said he was "well aware" of concerns being raised by some working in the residential construction sector.
"My responsibilities extend beyond the residential construction sector," he said.
Mr Barr said the flow-on implications of more people at work, was "more kids in childcare, more movement".
"There's a cumulative risk about movement across the community," he said.
"All these people will duck out for a coffee … in normal times that's great, but when you're trying to suppress a deadly virus you'd rather not have that.
ACT police conducted 526 traffic stops in the past 24 hours and gave 17 directions to leave the territory.
Police also received 88 compliance complaints but only issued two cautions.
"Access Canberra visited 117 businesses yesterday monitoring the introduction of the new click-and-collect model around the ACT, and reported a very strong level of compliance," Mr Barr said.
More to come.
