State's prison system in full lockdown after correctional services officer tests positive - 9News

Every prison and detention centre in Queensland is in full lockdown this morning after a corrective services officer tested positive to COVID-19.

The measures were announced as a safety precaution until further advice from the state's chief medical officer.

The confirmed case was at work last Friday and is believed to have interacted with other officers who then worked at multiple prisons.

Queensland Corrective Services (QCS)said they have confirmed this officer has tested positive to COVID-19 and they were last at work on Friday.

"QCS can confirm that an officer working at the Queensland Corrective Services Academy has returned a positive COVID-19 test," a spokesman said.

"The officer last reported for duty at the Academy on Friday. August 21 and returned a positive COVID-19 test yesterday."

The infected worker had worked at the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre at Wacol - which is already linked to a coronavirus cluster.

This latest case is separate to the other infection at the Wacol cluster.

Health authorities have established that person was a close contact of an already confirmed coronavirus case.

Queensland Health has added new locations that positive case visited across south east Queensland between August 14 and August 17.

The updated locations include the Forest Lake tavern, Richlands Magistrate Court, a bank and a cafe at Acacia Ridge. They also visited a takeaway shop at Slacks Creek and the Graceville netball courts and the canteen.

The new clusters have triggered a big response for coronavirus testing, with more than 20,000 recorded yesterday.
