The Gold Coast is the hub of COVID-19 community transmission in Queensland and women in their 20s across the state are the most likely demographic to have the disease, surprising new data reveals.
The Queensland government has on Wednesday released a breakdown of statistics for the state’s 1024 coronavirus cases, with the figures to be updated daily.
It reveals the extent of community transmission and breaks down cases by local government area, age, gender and infection source for the first time publicly.
Brisbane has the most cases overall with 408.
That’s followed by the Gold Coast (189), Moreton Bay (95), Sunshine Coast (70), Logan (42), Toowoomba (37), Ipswich (27), Cairns (24), Townsville (22), Redland (20), Noosa (15), Bundaberg (13) and the Fraser Coast (10).
The Cassowary Coast, Charters Towers, Douglas, Gladstone, Gympie, Hinchinbrook, Lockyer Valley, Mackay, Mareeba, North Burnett, Rockhampton, Scenic Rim, Somerset, South Burnett, Southern Downs, Tablelands, Western Downs and Whitsundays have fewer than 10 cases each.
It has also been revealed 785 of the cases were acquired overseas, with a further 17 interstate and 10 still being investigated
The rest, 212 people, contracted the disease locally and 42 of those cases do not know how.
Of the major cities, the Gold Coast has the highest proportion of locally acquired cases.
It was where Queensland recorded its first cases after a group of infected Chinese tourists arrived more than 80 days ago.
Sixty-two Gold Coast cases were acquired in the community, or almost 33 per cent, compared to Brisbane’s 71 cases at 17.4 per cent.
The 20-29 age bracket has the most cases with 236, with women making up 150 of those, followed by ages 60-69 with 166.

Women in their 20s make up 14.6 per cent of cases.
Fourteen people under the age of nine have contracted COVID-19, as well as 15 people over 80.
Queensland has recorded zero coronavirus cases on Wednesday - the second time that has happened this week.

There are 20 people in hospitals around the state, with seven in intensive care units including six on ventilators.
