WATCH LIVE: QLD COVID press conference with Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk as lockdown continues - 7NEWS.com.au

Queensland’s COVID-19 situation, which forced millions of people into lockdown, has worsened after three new locally acquired cases were reported.

The three-day lockdown of south-east Queensland and Townsville from 6pm on Tuesday was sparked by a young Brisbane woman who travelled north while infectious with the Delta strain.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk will hold a press conference at 10am AEST on Wednesday. You can stream it LIVE in the video player above.

On Wednesday, the new cases were the brother of the 19-year-old woman, a close contact of a patient linked to a Brisbane Portuguese restaurant cluster, and a close contact of a Sydney-based flight attendant who flew to Queensland last week while infectious.

The latter two cases tested positive while in quarantine in what Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk described as “very good news”.

“There are three locally acquired and close contacts of existing cases,” she said.

“So, we are considering these low risk. This is very good news.

“It does give our health officials the time they need to do the contact tracing, which is wonderful news.”
