Toddler, students and aged care staffer among new virus cases in NSW as clusters grow - 9News

A staff member from Ashfield Baptist Homes in Sydney's inner west has tested positive to COVID-19, after dining at the Thai Rock restaurant in Wetherill Park last week.

The aged care facility is in lockdown today and until further notice, as staff and residents undergo testing.

Employees and residents who had contact with that infected staffer are now self-isolating.

Health authorities say the risk of infection is relatively low as the staffer worked just three shifts while infectious and was wearing a mask, gloves and a gown at the time.

Further north in Port Stephens, near Newcastle, a cluster is growing there with three new cases emerging bringing the total to six.

The Goodstart Early Learning childcare centre at Anna Bay is closed today after a three-year-old tested positive to COVID-19.

Tomaree Public School and Tomaree High School, at nearby Salamander Bay, are now shut for deep cleaning after two students were confirmed to have coronavirus.

Those new cases are linked to a man in his 60s who visited the Salamander Bay shopping centre on July 15.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said despite the known sources of the virus, NSW remains on "high alert".

The next four weeks are the most critical for NSW since the coronavirus lockdown, Ms Berejiklian warned.

The Premier said officials had "a level of anxiety" about the chance of widespread community transmission in the state if rules are not followed.
