Live breaking news: COVID-19 found in Sydney sewage; Relief from mouse 'scourge' on the way for NSW farmers; William, Harry condemn BBC over Diana interview; Israel and Hamas agree to ceasefire - 9News

Coronavirus fragments have been detected in a sewage network servicing more than 40,000 people in Sydney's west and inner west.

Traces of the virus have been found at the Homebush sewage site, which takes in the following suburbs: Homebush West, Strathfield, Rookwood, Concord West, Sydney Olympic Park, Wentworth Point, Newington, Lidcombe, Homebush, Silverwater, Petersham, Liberty Grove, Rhodes, North Strathfield and Concord.

Several returned overseas travellers who have had COVID-19 and since recovered live in this catchment, according to NSW Health.

People who have recently recovered can continue to shed the virus for several weeks, despite no longer being infectious.

Nevertheless, NSW Health is urging everyone in the catchment area to be extra vigilant in monitoring for COVID-19 symptoms and isolate and seek testing should they appear.

It comes as the state records no new COVID-19 cases today, including none in hotel quarantine.

There are currently 51 active cases in the state, including one who is seriously ill in ICU and is being ventilated.
