Commercial flight services between Delhi to Sikkim commences
Pakyong (Sikkim) Jan 23 (ANI): The first commercial flight services between Delhi and Sikkim commenced on Saturday with a SpiceJet aircraft landing at Pakyong airport in the Himalayan state with 57 passengers at Greenfield Airport. The Bombardier Q400 Spicejet aircraft landed at the Greenfield airport around noon and flew back to Delhi with 22 passengers on board. State Health Minister M K Sharma, senior officials of the Tourism Department and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) were present at the airport. "This will boost the tourism sector of the state. It is an important step as many people have been demanding for a direct flight from Pakyong to Delhi. We are getting a lot of tourist from Delhi. Now the tourist can take direct flight from Pakyong to Delhi," said Kapil Meena, Secretary, Sikkim tourism. To ease the visibility concern, Airports Authority of India has reached a consensus with Directorate General of Civil Aviation to introduce Required Navigation Performance System, specific to Pakyong Airport only in the country. The airport, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September 2018, remained unoperational since June 2019 due to technical reasons and uncertain weather conditions.
