Study: eggs raise risk of heart disease, early death - WSAZ-TV

Huntington, W.Va. (WSAZ and wire reports) — A new study that says adults who ate 1 1/2 eggs a day have an elevated risk of heart disease doesn’t mean you should stop eating them.

Researchers at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine showed the more eggs you eat, the slightly higher the risk of heart disease and dying early. The culprit is the cholesterol in egg yolks, they reported.

The researchers said you can still include eggs in a healthy diet, but in moderation.

However, the study contradicts other research. In fact, a government panel of nutrition experts said in 2015 that the effects of dietary cholesterol are overstated.

They issued a statement then saying, “Available evidence shows no appreciable relationship between consumption of dietary cholesterol and serum cholesterol.”
