Reused needles, unsanitary conditions close three dental practices - PennLive

The Philadelphia Health Department has closed down three dental practices they say operated under unsanitary conditions and may have exposed up to 1,500 patients to diseases, including HIV.

Investigators found staff members at the three Trieu Family Dental Clinics at 437 West Chew Avenue, 5427 North 5th Street and 6536 Woodland Avenue reused needles and improperly cleaned equipment, NBC 10 of Philadelphia is reporting.

While the city’s Health Department says the risk of infection is low, they recommend patients contact their doctors and get tested for hepatitis C and B and HIV, according to reports. It can take a year for symptoms to show.

The three practices have been closed since Dec. 7.

The state Department of Health has launched its own investigation.
