Measles case confirmed in Shasta County - KRCRTV.COM

Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency Public Health Branch has confirmed there is a case of measles in Shasta County.

The patient is currently under isolation and anyone they have come into contact with over the past eight days is being contacted.

Public Health officials would like to let the public know it is not imperative they contact public health immediately. However, people who were in the following locations and meet the specific conditions, such as unvaccinated or exhibiting symptoms, should call (530) 225-5591.

The phone lines are open until 8 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

  • Taco Bell on Old Alturas Rd. in Redding on March 16 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and March 17 from 6 a.m. to noon.
  • The Raley’s Supermarket on Lake Boulevard in Redding on March 18 around 6 to 7 p.m.
  • The Shasta College 800 Building on March 19 from 9:30 a.m. to noon and 3:30 to 5 p.m.
  • The Shasta College Library on March 19 from noon to 4:30 p.m.
  • The Raley’s Supermarket on Lake Boulevard in Redding on March 19 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m
Symptoms include: fever, cough, runny nose, conjunctivitis (pink eye) and then a rash that starts at the head and spreads downwards.Infected people are usually contagious from about four days before their rash starts to four days afterwards, according to Public Health officials.This is the first confirmed case of measles in Shasta County since April of 2014.
