3 COVID cases in Melbourne prompt authorities to open new testing sites - 7NEWS.com.au

New COVID-19 testing sites have opened in Melbourne after three new cases found outside hotel quarantine sparked fears of community transmission.

The Victorian health department on Wednesday issued a fresh call for Melbourne residents to get tested if they have any symptoms of coronavirus.

“We always knew this virus had us in a precarious position and we need to make sure we do everything we can to stamp out any further transmissions,” COVID-19 response commander Jeroen Weimar said.

“Now more than ever people should not let down their guard.

“Maintain physical distancing, practice good hand hygiene.

“Stay at home if you’re unwell and most of all get tested if you have any symptoms at all.”

The new pop-up testing sites have opened at Don Tatnell Leisure Centre in Parkdale and Wantirna Trash and Treasure Market in Wantirna.

Information on other testing locations has been provided by the health department.

The new Victorian cases on Wednesday are two women in their 40s and a woman in her 70s.

They are from three different suburbs - Mentone, Mitcham and Hallam.

The cases are known to have visited Menton/Parkdale Beach on December 17.
