NSW goes 13 days without local virus case - 7NEWS.com.au

NSW is just one day short of notching up a fortnight without any new locally-transmitted COVID-19 cases.

Statistics released on Friday showed that from more than 18,000 tests in the 24 hours to 8pm on Thursday, just three new cases were diagnosed in returned travellers in hotel quarantine.

Health authorities are concerned however, after fragments of the virus were detected in sewage samples taken from Batemans Bay on the state’s south coast on Tuesday.

The positive sewage result could be due to shedding of the virus by someone who may have previously had the illness, but anyone in the area with even the mildest symptoms should get tested.

NSW Health continues to advise NSW residents to defer non-essential travel to Adelaide while the South Australian capital deals with a COVID-19 outbreak.

NSW Health is treating 63 cases of COVID, none of whom are in intensive care.

Most cases are in non-acute, out-of-hospital care.

Authorities continue to urge anyone with even the mildest symptoms of the virus to come forward for testing.

“If people don’t come forward for testing, outbreaks can easily be missed early on when they can be more readily controlled,” NSW Health said.
