Coronavirus Australia live news: Northern Territory opens border to regional Victorians - ABC News

State of disaster extension is still undecided in Victoria

Any decision on whether to extend Victoria's state of disaster again will be guided by public health advice, Jacinta Allen, Minister for Transport Infrastructure, says.

Premier Daniel Andrews last month declared Victoria's state of disaster and state of emergency declarations were being extended until 11:59pm November 8.

Ms Allan said a decision about whether to extend to extend the state of disaster beyond that date had not been made yet.

"We take the advice from our public health team and emergency agencies about what is best needed," she said.

"That's what's driven us through the course of this pandemic, and it's been that in concert with the way Victorians have followed the rules, done the right things and responded so well, that's seen us today record another day of no new cases.

"It's following that advice and following that expertise that will continue to guide us."

The state of emergency is what allows the Chief Health Officer to give enforceable directions, such as requiring COVID-positive people to self-isolate and other coronavirus restrictions.

The state of disaster is slightly different, and allowed police to enforce rules such as Melbourne's curfew and 5-kilometre travel radius.
