A debilitating new strain of the flu has led to an explosion of cases with nearly 200 children hospitalised.

The Government is so worried about the flu epidemic that it has extended its free vaccination program by a month until the end of June and is urging parents to get their children the flu jab with only 7.4 per cent of kids aged under 10 immunised this year.
