Andrews rejects calls to divvy up state with different rules

ABC News

More than 670,000 Victorians living under stage three restrictions are in currently coronavirus-free areas.

The latest data from Victoria's health department shows there are 30 local government areas across the state that currently have no active COVID-19 infections, including Mildura, Wodonga and now, Ballarat.

However, despite calls for the Government to allow areas with zero active cases to reopen, the Premier Daniel Andrews says it would be too confusing to divvy up the state with different rules and borders.

There are now just 72 active cases in regional Victoria, and its rolling 14 day average is 4.5.

Mr Andrews says the region could potentially be eased out of restrictions as early as the end of next week if its cases continue to decline.
