It's midnight and Compass producer Tracey Spring is in the grip of full-blown insomnia.
The team has just been told they cannot film any more stories.
After months of preparation, they had been about to leave for Nagasaki to film a TV story about the 75th anniversary of the atomic bomb but overnight, the shoot was cancelled.
Suddenly, the team was looking at working from home. But working on what?
At about 3:00am, Tracey had a thought: "There must be film students going into lockdown who have access to gear and are great stories."
The next day, she wrote a pitch: "And what do the film students get out of it? They receive one-on-one mentoring from experienced ABC TV producers who will guide them in all aspects of the story."
Anna is one of those students. During lockdown, her lifeline was her phone.
She was an international student living alone in Brisbane while her mother and Nonna were home in Italy.
For Anna, it felt like each day didn't really get started until 5:20pm, when her loved ones called from overseas.
In one devastating call, she learned they'd both tested positive to COVID-19.
