Breaking news and live updates: Victoria records just 14 new cases of COVID-19 with five deaths; Sydney taxi driver tests positive; New checks at Queensland airports; SA tourism voucher scheme panned - 9News

A Korean barbecue restaurant in Sydney's inner west has been fined $5,000 for breaching coronavirus restrictions after diners were found sharing crockery, cutlery and food.

When SafeWork NSW inspectors visited Butchers Buffet in Strathfield last Friday, they saw patrons using shared condiments, serving utensils, bowls and trays of food at an open buffet.

There were also shared utensils in use on diners' tables.

There was no safety marshal in place, as is required under NSW public health restrictions, or stated limits on the number of customers allowed on the premises.

Chairs and tables were not sufficiently spaced apart and CCTV footage showed patrons were not physically distancing when helping themselves at the buffet.

SafeWork NSW Director Work Health and Safety Metro, Sarina Wise, said these sorts of breaches defy logic.

"Self-serve buffets and pandemics simply don't mix, creating a source of potentially contaminated items," Ms Wise said in a statement.

"No self-serve buffet style food service areas are allowed including communal bar snacks and communal condiments.

"Sharing items on a buffet is clearly a direct line for COVID transmission."

The restaurant is one of 23 to be fined for coronavirus breaches just this week.
