NSW health alert after returned traveller tests positive for COVID-19 following hotel quarantine - Sydney Morning Herald

NSW Health has issued an alert after a Wollongong resident tested positive for the coronavirus two days after leaving hotel quarantine.

The returned overseas traveller, who did not have any symptoms, tested positive on day 16 after two weeks of quarantine.

The person is not considered to be very infectious and their household contacts have returned negative results. The person’s close contacts have been identified and directed to self-isolate.

The infection is believed to have been acquired overseas. It was detected under the recently bolstered day-16 follow-up testing for people who have been in hotel quarantine.

NSW Health has issued warnings for a range of venues the person visited in Wollongong and south-eastern Sydney after leaving quarantine and before returning the positive test result.

Anyone who attended the following venues has been instructed to get tested immediately and self-isolate until receiving further advice from NSW Health:

• Headlands Hotel in Austinmer on Tuesday, February 2, between 1pm and 3pm
• Bulli Beach Cafe in Bulli on Saturday, February 6, between 1.30pm and 4pm

Anyone who attended the following venues is considered a casual contact and should get tested immediately and isolate until receiving a negative result:

• Mootch & Me in Brighton Le Sands on Tuesday, February 2, between 10.54am and 12pm
• Optus in North Wollongong on Thursday, February 4, between 1pm and 1.15pm
• Officeworks in Fairy Meadow on Thursday, February 4, between 3.45pm and 4.05pm and Friday, February, 5, between 2.10pm and 3pm

Anyone who attended the following venues is advised to monitor for symptoms and get tested if they appear:

• Woolworths in Bulli on Wednesday, February 3, between 9.50am and 10.50am
• Corrimal Memorial Park in Corrimal on Wednesday, February 3, between 1pm and 1pm
• Thirroul Beach in Thirroul on Wednesday, February 3, between 3pm and 4.30pm
• Sublime Point Walking Track in Madden Plains on Thursday, February 4, between 8.30am and 10am
• Figtree Cove Shopping Centre (especially Australia Post, Kmart, Blooms The Chemist and Subway) in Figtree on Thursday, February 4, between 2pm and 3.30pm
• Fedora Pasta Factory in Fairy Meadow on Friday, February 5, between 3.30pm and 3.35pm
