Evidence 'points to' COVID-19 potentially originating in bats: WHO - Sky News Australia

The World Health Organisation’s investigation into the origins of COVID-19 has announced the virus which led to the worldwide pandemic most likely did not emerge from a lab. Liang Wannian Head of Expert Panel of COVID-19 Response of China National Health Commission said COVID-19 has most likely been found in pangolins and bats, suggesting these animals as hosts. Mr Liang also said at the time of transmission into the Hunan wet market, the virus was also spreading in different locations throughout Wuhan. Dr Peter Ben Embarek - WHO’s top expert on zoonotic diseases – said the virus most likely transferred to humans through an intermediary species which is genetically closer to humans than bats or pangolins. "All the work that has been done on the virus and trying to identify its origin continue to point toward a natural reservoir of this virus and similar viruses in bat population".
